I want to book a stay, but I am hesitant. Does Matachica offer a flexible cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy has been modified to reflect the state of uncertainty that we are all collectively experiencing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Cancellations made more than 45 days prior to arrival will receive full refunds with the exception of an administrative fee of US $100 + 9% government hotel tax per room. Cancellations within the 44 days prior to arrival, will receive a full credit, redeemable within 2 years of the arrival date of the scheduled trip.
What safety guidelines/protocols are Matachica putting in place for the safety of their guests and staff?
Our secluded location and design, consisting of private casitas and cabanas and open-air common spaces, inherently allow for social distancing. In addition, we are implementing enhanced security, sanitization, and safety protocols. Matachica Resort will only reopen upon completing the Gold Standard Certification process, a rigorous program governed by the Belize Tourism Board, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Belize. The Gold Standard Certification seeks to ensure the health and safety of citizens and international travellers and tourists. As a leading resort in the country, Matachica Resort is committed to ensuring enhanced safety standards beyond the Gold Standard Certification and we will continue to reevaluate and update our standards as suggested by the Government of Belize. Can I book spa appointments at Matachica?
Yes, spa appointments will be available. Temperatures will be checked and logged before entering the spa, and some services involving close contact with the nose and mouth (i.e. facials), may not be available at this time.
What happens if I contract COVID-19 during my stay?
If COVID-19 is suspected or confirmed, you and other members of your party that you have been in close contact with will required to self-isolate in your designated room. Unless you develop symptoms that require medical attention, you will be kept onsite, and staff will attend to your needs with food deliveries, clean towels, hygiene items, etc. The Minister of Health will be contacted, and contract tracing will be deployed. You will have to stay isolated for two weeks and receive two negative COVID-19 tests, before the quarantine measures may be lifted. Costs incurred during that period will be at your own expense.
Which airport do I fly into and how do I reach Matachica from there?
All international flights to Belize land at Belize City Airport (Philip S W Goldson International Airport, code BZE) The easiest way to get from there to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, the island where the resort is located, is via a short domestic flight . If you do not mind the extra time and hassle, there is also a ferry boat option. Please contact us for details on domestic flights and ferry boat information. With prior notification, a Matachica representative will meet you on arrival in San Pedro, for the onward boat transfer to the resort.
How far is Matachica from San Pedro and is there a transportation service available?
Matachica is located 5 miles north of San Pedro Town and offers a complimentary boat service between San Pedro and the resort several times during the day on a varying schedule, which is posted each morning at the front desk. In the evening and outside our schedule, public ferry boats and private water taxis are available. Road access is limited, but it is possible to use a golf cart during daylight hours.
What is the weather like?
Belize’s climate is tropical all year long, with sunny and rainy days and maybe a combination of both. Beginning of June to end of November is the Caribbean Hurricane Season and you have to expect more showers. How much it will rain during a particular period, or come to that if any at all, we are of course not able to predict, especially since weather patterns have been changing significantly over the last few years.
Is the resort a good choice for my family vacation?
The resort is designed with the mature adult in mind. We welcome families with older teens, but a minimum age requirement of 16 years applies.
Do we need adapters or converters for our devices?
The outlets at Matachica are the same as in the US and Canada, and our voltage is also 110V – 120V. There is no need for any adapter or converter for American appliances, but for European appliances, there is.
What type of Internet is available at Matachica?
Matachica offers complimentary wireless internet access in the main building and surrounding areas.
Is there cell phone service?
Matachica has good cell phone reception. Please check with your provider concerning service to Belize
Is there a TV or phone in the rooms?
Matachica is proud to offer a truly relaxing environment without phones in the rooms, or TVs anywhere on the property, but there is a guest library and a variety of games.
Are there hairdryers in the rooms?
All rooms are equipped with good quality hair dryers
Do any or all rooms have safes and refrigerators?
All rooms have safes to protect your valuables but there are no refrigerators in any of the rooms except the Luxury Beachfront Villas
Are there any restaurants close to the resort?
In addition to Mambo, Matachica’s on site Restaurant, you will find great local restaurants in San Pedro. A few very casual establishments are nearby. Our front desk staff will be happy to assist with recommendations and reservations.
Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?
With advance notice, most dietary requirements can be accommodated. Please note that we are not able to offer Kosher or Halal meals.
Is there swimming or snorkeling right off Matachica’s beaches?
Anywhere on the island, the water right off the beach is shallow. It is possible to wade into the water. Alternatively, there are steps leading into the water from our dock to a safe swimming area where the depth is comfortable and the bottom is sandy. For the slightly more adventurous, it is possible to kayak to the reef for an unguided snorkel adventure.
Is there sea grass along Matachica’s shores?
Yes, there is sea grass in front of Matachica’s shores. This is a natural occurrence and sea grass is a vital element of the ecological marine world as many ocean species thrive on this to survive.
Is there a road/path for jogging?
There are no official jogging path but it is possible to enjoy a run right along the beach.
What kind of activity amenities are available?
A stay at Matachica includes the use of sea kayaks, snorkel gear, pedal boats, paddle boards, sunfish sailboats and bicycles.
Do you have a dive shop on site?
Matachica does not have a dive shop on site, but we cooperate with several excellent PADI International dive operators, and our concierge will be happy to book dives for you. Pick-up and drop-off for all dives arranged through the resort is right at our dock. Please remember to bring your PADI card, you will need it to be able to dive.
Is there a minimum age to stay?
